Checking in to say Hi
Hi,
So I just bough a used Jag earlier this week. I live in the Tampa Bay area and if anyone ever been down here you know it full of retirees with money who end up selling there cars because of age or because they bought something new because they have more money then they really know what to do with. So the luxury car market pretty well stocked down here.
I ended up getting a great deal 1600 for 2003 X Type 2.5 L Manual with a near mint interior really just needs a new leather on the steering wheel. I am Jeep person through and through so sorry any Landrover fans please put any delusions aside that you own the superior 4x4 as you dont. So the Jag is my "beater" car while the jeep is in the body shop ( not yet but soon ) as she has had her fair share and dings and nicks while having fun and it time to make her like new and give her a little boost from our friends down under.
So back to the Jags, I am a gear head and as such owning a Jag is not a necessity but a check box of experiences one should have hence why it took me a while to find this Jag over any other as I really wanted a manual transmission as I really do be if your going to own something as iconic as a Jag you should experience her as she meant to be with a clutch and a gearbox under your control.
Sadly she is not British racing car green but Zircon Blue metallic. She drives nice the ride is not as smooth as I thought for a ford made Jag. I am finding this to be maybe a more of Xtype thing as I felt the same in the few automatic trans XTypes . The S type felt more what I thought it would feel like but that probably because the S type is more in line with a Lincoln LS then the XType is with any car. I will say that I may have been spoiled by Lincoln Towncars as my brother owns a pretty heavily performance tuned towncar ( yes you can stop laughing now ) She is fast and the air suspension makes it like your floating on a cloud.
Though I love the feel of the Xtype though I will say I will sometimes high question oddball things that I am sure most of you will be able to explain.
Looking forward to talking to you all.
Rob

Very nice Jag. As someone who appericates all automobiles with the exception of Hummer, the F-Type is on my list of Jags I would own
My personal list of favorite Jags
1. 70s E-Type convertible
2. F-type Convertible I feel is a great car to honor the E-type she is just sexy.
3. X-Type they are just fun cars wish there was an R version.

It really is a lot of fun although I still have a soft spot for my guy's 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP. The Jag is his primary car, a little impractical for CO but so much fun! We currently have 2 rear wheel cars and an AWD (2014 Buick Regal T). I'm thinking about trading the Regal for an F-Pace by 2018 though. The list of potential cars is long...

Welcome, Rob! In late 2004 we bought a brand new X-Type for my wife. My ride was a 2004 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series that I had bought about six months earlier. Even new, and totally stock, there is absolutely no comparison in the ride and comfort level of the two cars; the Lincoln won hands down. What you have to remember is that, for all its snazzy Jaguar style, the X-Type was an entry-level offering. Of the two cars however, her Jaguar was always the head-turner... no one ever gave my Town Car a second glance. My latest Lincoln experience was with a less-than-satisfying MKT crossover that ultimately led to our return to Jaguar, although shopping in the upper end of the offerings this time. Couldn't be more pleased with our XJL Supercharged. I've owned 14 Lincolns since 1976 and not a one of them even came close to my current Jaguar.

I have now had some time to open her up on the road and once you get going on the highway the suspension feels better. I will say the Xtype way more nimble than my brothers towncar ever was. Considering that the X type was a entry level car on par with say the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 series I really have to say the X type is the better car. One could make the case for a A4 quattro but I find the AWD in the X type to be very good feel, as far as snow goes I will probably never have her up in the snow.
Long term I am going to try and keep her maybe see if I can just get collectors insurance on her as for a car that did not sell a whole lot I think she was just miss understood as god is it a fun car ... Maybe people should stop buying automatic transmissions and go back to manual, enjoy the car for what she is .
I was recently with a client in his 2016 XJ again it was not bad but was not what I was expecting. Though I think that it more me than the car. I have had family who driven alot of American "Luxury" Cars mostly Lincolns and Caddys. Which all tend to have that floaty feeling in the suspension do to how they are built and do to air suspension.
