Default Crossing over newbie!

Hi all,

I'm pretty much a life long BMW owner and recently bought a 2002 XKR.

My husband who was an avid Jag owner had been looking for a 2005 XKR. Having found his car it presented the challenge of heading out to golf with the guys as his car fit just one. Big mistake for my man as I found myself trading my SUV for the day for his XKR many days in September and October so he could drive his pals.

Solution: Get my own and make the SUV the community car!

I never thought I would cheat on BMW North America, but I am loving my new (old) ride. This forum helped me identify issues, benefits and details that made decision making easy.

I'm thrilled to join this knowledge bank! ~Cheers~

Welcome to the forum Jag Vroom,

Sounds like you've already found your way around here but if not, follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR section for help, advice and information.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Western Region section by following this link Western US - AK CA NV OR UT HI WA ID - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forum.

Welcome to this friendly Forum. We're always delighted to welcome converts from Bayerische Motoren Werke and I'm sure you'll never look back, particularly with an XKR.
Just check the date of engine (not car) manufacture. If it's after August 13th 2001 you have good timing chain tensioners, if before you need to worry. Any Jag dealer will give you the engine number from the VIN.

Thanks for the heads up. I had thought I was on easy street as I saw that was an issue to earlier models but didn't consider mid year production. So if I find out I have bad timing chain tensioner s what would be the fix? The car goes in next Tuesday. ...

If it's got the original plastic tensioners fitted, it's on borrowed time. Don't bring it out again until it has these replaced with the latest generation metal tensioners.

Will do! I truly love the look of this car and will ask the mechanic to make the change if they are plastic. I did reach a dealership today after your post and he could not help me out with the vin in determining engine built date. Our mechanic knows his stuff so I'm sure he will get this issued squared!

Dealership said car dispatched 9/15/01 and sold 11/30/01. I'm guessing I have a high chance of plastic.

I'm afraid that's right but best to find out while you've still got an engine.
Please keep us up to date via the XK8/R section (Graham's link)
