Default galvanic corrosion or electrolysis

Hi team, this is my first post, so please bear wth me , .....Im Dave , and im 54years old , i live in small town new zealand (cambridge), and have owned jags off and on for the past 30 years......my latest is a 1999 xkr with a low 35000 km on the clock, i imported it personally from japan, its in near mint condition, and i love its shape......i can not legally drive it until may 2019 , when it will turn 20 years old , and i can licence it for the road here...
the one and only thing i can fault about the car , is the fact that it has a bunch of white powdery fuzzy build up around the battery compartment in the trunk. like the stuff you get on your battery posts , on some cars).....the battery and posts all look new....-and could be/ but the steel deck that the battery sits on ,and the corospondindg double skins around the imediate area have this fuzz thats not easy to get rid of, and im wondering what the best cause of action is here???????....any help is appreciated .
So far i have removed the battery, and loosened the fuse box , to gain access underneath etc , and have painted baking soda /water mixture around the effected areas, i followed up with a milky rust kill product that washes up in water.
the effected areas are not easily accessed , and the white fuzz is coming back.......does anyone know what this is , ?
how do i stop it?
how did it get here in the first place?
im guessing it may have had an overcharging problem in the past, resulting in a battery boil over / leak/ explosion,
i have had a meter on it and its charging is fine at the moment
id like to deal to this growth before it causes more serious corrosion, and feel like i need to kill it off before i go ahead and paint in there with a 2 pack epoxy primer....?
thanks for any help or ideas as to how this happened.and kind regards.....David Carter

Welcome.

Bugga, and I would have used what you have already used, but it appears to have not been 100%.

Hopefully the crew in the XK8 Tech Section may have experienced it and have the answers.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum Dave,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I think you're right about the probability of an earlier overcharge causing the acid damage and bicarb is the way to remove the white fuzz. However, the XK8/XKR MUST have a vented battery with the vent tube exiting through the luggage compartment floor so you should check this is fitted correctly. This is my 2005 XK8:

BATTERY VENT ADAPTER

VENT TUBE EXIT

It looks like you'rfe finding your way around here now but if not, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

I can see you've found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
