Default Decisions - Decisions

Well, I am surprised it has been about 3 years since I started looking for a convertible XK and I figure a re-introduction is in order.

Why the long delay to making a purchase? Our financial goals for our forthcoming retirement in the next 5 years was the #1 priority and it also took this long to get our houses ready for sale and to be sold. This prevented us from making a purchase of a convertible. So, we did sell the two houses, as part of taking the right steps towards our retirement financial goals, and the house we are in now will have it's remodel completed this October. We are doing our best to ensure this current house fits into the financial retirement goals so therefore, a convertible purchase appears to be back in the cards.

However, decisions - decisions and I would appreciate your comments as to what I am thinking and desire. I am thinking out-loud below to elicit helpful thoughts.

Desires:
*** A convertible I can hop in 3 - 4 times a week to just drive...to the store, to cruise...it will be the 2nd - 3rd vehicle.
*** I will not be doing much of the maintenance on the vehicle, if any at all, and my plan is to have it be dealer serviced. I am very capable of doing the maintenance and my plans may change. I am very aware of the cost of a Jaguar and of the issues many owners of the X100 have faced.
*** A light color car with my preference being white with chrome polished wheels

Comments
*** I "fit" better in the X-150 than I do in the X-100
*** I am very aware of the issues encountered by owners of the X-100
*** I am less aware of the issues the owners of a X150 or X152 (F-Type) might encounter; the housing issue took my focus away doing much detailed review and reading

X-100:
*** This is the model I fell in love with initially and spent most of my research on that model, and decided a 2004-2006 would be the years to purchase, thereby avoiding the issues with the earlier years.
*** I test drove a 1999 XK8 and a 2001 XK8 and liked them with the exception of the windshield header being located just about eye level....not quite but lose enough that I noticed it and I am only 5'9".
*** I had decided the XKR was not needed after a lot of reading as I did not need the power nor the complexity of having the supercharger on top of the engine.
*** I like the price of the X-100 as most likely it would be a sub-$15,000 vehicle

X-150:
*** We test drove a Champagne-colored 2008 XKR with the 4.2L and immediately felt more comfortable behind the wheel than I did behind the wheel of an X-100. There just seemed to be more room and I did not notice the windshield header. It felt like I was "home".
*** The power of that supercharger told me I "needed" the supercharger. ha ha. I am now very curious as to how the non-supercharged engine compares, and do I truly "need" the supercharger. In 20/20 hindsight I should have purchased it since I have not seen other X-150s for sale that seem to be a decent price for the miles and years.
*** I have been focusing on the 2009-2014 to get the 5.0L and for reasons I can't remember I have it in my head that a 2011-2014 is where I should focus.
*** I felt comfortable in the X-150 and really, really, really, really liked the supercharger.
*** I am expecting to pay low $20's to low $30's

X-152 (F-Type):
*** I have not seen one in-person yet so I am unsure how I would feel sitting in it.
*** I have no thoughts on the X-152 (F-Type) in comparison to the X-100 or X-150 but should I?
*** I am expecting pay in the mid-$30s - mid-$40s

Questions:
*** What can anyone share with me to help me narrow my choices?

*** Did the X-150 and F-Type overlap in 2014? I have seen both models for that year or perhaps the advertisement was written incorrectly

*** There is a 2010 XK for sale in Scottsdale right now for $22k with 89k miles. It does not have my preferred color or wheels, nor is it an XKR. I am also concerned why the Carfax states it was sold in April 2021 and is for sale once again. I spoke to the dealer a few minutes ago that sold it in April 2021. The salesman was surprised to learn it was for sale again as believed it was sold to an individual in the Los Angeles area, and unsure why it would be sold so quickly. Even though the dealer said they are extra-picky to their higher-end cars and and the buyer had it inspected I still have some pause wondering why it sold again so quickly. Is there an issue that arose soon after the April 2021 sale? Because of the non-preferred color, wheels, and quick sale I think this is best for me to pass on.

*** There is a 2014 F-Type for sale in Fresno for $33k and in three weeks I will be in Fresno. Is the higher price and newer model worth exploring?

*** I am getting more uncomfortable the higher the price. Am I missing the fact that is feeling is driving me away from the F-Type? I saw a 2018 for sale for $53k and a 2014 for $33k. A $20k depreciation over 4 years?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome back to the forum pvxkowner,

From your logic trail, you have done your research. The XK and F-Type did overlap in 2014.

I've had two X100's and am on my second X150. I've three times considered an X152 and concluded the build quality simply doesn't compare with the earlier two door models. As there's nothing in Jaguar's current or announced future plans that appeals, the X150 is likely to be with me for some time.

If you decide against DiY and go with dealer servicing, the X100 could now be an issue. Few dealers have the model-knowledgeable technicians to do anything more than routine servicing.
