I have an X-Type 3Ltr 2002 which has been as good as gold till the cold weather this year. Now for some reason I don’t understand the front passenger door sometimes refuses to unlock and the driver’s door can’t be opened from the outside. Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone know of a solution?

As for your door locking probs, these were found usually on the earlier X types from those years. The drivers door is a linkage problem and is documented in the X types section quick FAQ link thread I believe. There's also a thread there showing how to remove the door card with pictures that you'll find useful
You may also have problems with your dash air vents popping up and various other small issues?
