Default Error codes...Now what?

Hi, I've got a '98 XJ8 and it has been sitting for sometime. I just replaced all spark plugs. I'm now getting codes P1000 / P1643, both pending. Car will not start. I did add a fuel stabilizer bout a month ago, and when I was doing plugs I noticed the throttle body had cruddy gas laying in the bottom. Anyone have ideas as to what I should do with codes?

Hi 98jagxj8 your code P1000 is Engine Control Module internal error and code P1643 is Fuel Pump Motor circuit low input. I hope this helps you.

This link to your codes should help http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...%201997-99.pdf As for the P1000 that is an on board system check so for now just ignore it. The P1643 is a when an ECM fault is detected and limits the throttle to restricted performance.

I am thinking that you have been trying to start this car and caused the battery to go well below normal and that will cause many faults so for now I would say let it go for the moment. Your car is equipped with a Nikasil engine and that will cause a no start situation due to the lack of compression. This link: JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource will help you with a no start situation and near the end of it you will find information related to Nikasil .

If when attempting to start your car and the engine is spinning like it has no compression then you have a cylinder washing issue and the procedure will help.

Welcome to the forum 98jagxj8,

Sleeping cats need to be woken up carefully!

Excellent advice from Gus on the codes and loss of compression.

In addition, follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ8 section for help and advice.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Please also visit the Mid West US Region section https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...n-mo-oh-wi-39/ for other members and events in your region.

Hope you get the XJ8 running soon. Enjoy the forum.
