Exciting Find! 1985 XJS
Good evening! Thank you so much for accepting me!
I am writing from Fulshear, TX, close to Houston. I found a very well kept white 1985 XJS with 47,000 original miles, and original everything. The Jag has not been started in about 9 years and has been gently used. My plan of attack, unless it changed thanks to better suggestions, is:
Done:
- Brought it home
- Drained the oil and filled with mineral 20W 50
- Drained the gas from the tank
Next steps:
- Find the fuel llne coming into the engine and drain
- Drain Coolant and fill
- Replace plugs
- Fill with fuel with a bit of Seafoam
- Put a new battery in
- Cross my fingers and hope for the best!
I have not done this before and am absolutely open to ideas!
Thanks again for accepting me, it is a pleasure to be a part of this group!

Hi!
After you get it running make sure to properly bleed the cooling system. We can help if you don't know the procedure. Or just search the archives.
Watch out for fuel leaks in the engine bay, especially from the injector hoses. Replacing all the fuel hoses in the engine bay should be high on your list. This is important!
Fuel supply into the engine compartment is on the RH side, low, near the firewall. Follow the hose-pipe from the RH fuel regulator downward and you find it
There's lots to learn about a V12 Jag but that's part of the fun
Cheers

Welcome to the Forums.
Fuel lines (ALL of them) should be done before turning the key. A squirt from one of them will BBQ the new toy in a heartbeat. They rarely wear as such, they degrade from the inside out.
Doug's Right Hand is the universal language, taken as sitting IN the car and facing forward. Saves a lot of guessing as the Drivers/Passengers side.
Well done and GOOD luck.

I just ordered all four hoses for the engine bay. You are right, they do not crack but they paint my finger when manipulated. Will change all before first fire up. Thank you!!!
