Default Finally a jag owner

Just bought myself a xj x300 4.0 sovereign here in Norway after 25 years of dreaming about these cars. Found a beautiful car but it needs some servicing. Its done about 84000 miles. (135 000 km )

Had it for 2 days and I have already changed the battery, air filter and the engine oil (05w-40w) . On the first day I got a transmission warning light and then it died on idle. It started again immediately though. No warning lights after I changed the battery, airfilter and oil, but it still idles at 700-900 in park, and 400-500rpm while in drive, slowly rolling, ALMOST dying out. Hoping that this will go away after changing sparks plugs this week. if not I might order a new MAF.

Other than that I'll be changing the front brakes tomorrow, and maybe transmission oil etc etc.
The car is wonderful and a dream to ride. It sounds amazing and really pulls well. I am also really looking forward to getting some hints and help in this forum as my mechanical skills are almost non existent.

Congratulations on Finally realizing your dream!
900rpm seems OK for idle in Park but 400rpm in Drive is indeed a bit slow. Someone will be along shortly to direct you to the correct section where members can help you fix that.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome.

Graham has directed you to the X300 section where the answers will be.

I would suggest a trans fluid drop and refill, as fresh fluid in there will do no harm after all these years.
