Finally a Jaguar owner
I don't quite remember when I first fell in love with Jaguar cars, but I know it had to be before the age of 6. That was when I first photographed sitting in a vintage E-type convertible that I saw at a local car show. When I finally started driving, back in 1994, Jaguars became an obsession for me. I come from a financially conservative family who didn't care for the fact that I wanted such a flashy car. My high school years were spent trying to find a way to afford one, I even resorted to trying to buy salvage or flood Jaguars. My mother would never give in to my crazy ideas and told me that a Jaguar was something that I needed to wait for. Though many years & models have passed, I have still remained loyal the cars of dreams....the 1994 XJ6(the last of the boxy Jaguars) & the 1996-1997 XJ6 Vanden Plas (the last of the in line 6's). So when I recently had some money burning a hole in my pocket I set out to find a pristine, low mileage version of either. I came across a 1997 Vanden Plas with 45k miles in Philadelpia(not a northern car though - it came from El Paso TX but spent most of its life in Palm Desert CA) last Monday morning and by Wednesday at noon I was driving it back to Huntsville Alabama where I live. It feels kind of weird to finally have one, to not be peeking in the windows of someone else's. I have already started going through it and replacing aged parts. New belts & hoses are going on it at this very moment. Just ordered new radiator mounts/bushings. If anyone out there has any suggestions for me please let me know. With the extremely low miles its hard to know what should or needs to be replaced. Your advice would be much appreciated.
