Oddly, GGG. Now that you mention it I recall a certain newish '95 Honda Accord with a similar glitch. Recent battery wasn't up to snuff. That was a long time ago, GGG.

Thanks, many.

After recovering from Grahams buffalo sniffing admissions, I can now say welcome. Congratulations on the purchase and the big adventure road trip home.

It's gratifying to read you made a full recovery, yarpos. I haven't tested the battery yet. I've been through the weird battery stuff. Good battery in the Accord. That was when I learned these computer cars are voltage sensitive. Same with the Infiniti. Cranks all day. Just won't start. Shop fixed it. The XK must've figured out which glitches I'm OK with and which ones get fixed. The steering wheel takes a few tries to get it to go all the way down with one attempt. That just started a few weeks ago. I don't mind pressing the leever a couple of times. Hell, I had a '59 El Camino rust bucket only my wife and I could drive. It had a secret shift pattern with the stick on the steering column. Three on the Tree it was called, for you kids.
As I said. Love the car. I'm going to put over 300,000 miles on it. I have to out-do my old '94 Infiniti Q45. Easily the best car I've ever owned in 50 years of driving.
And thank you for the warm welcome.

This issue is not unusual on a number of Jaguar models. Intermittent and then finally fails. Not another battery related fault, the regular cause is the harness to the steering tilt/telescoping motor.

Plenty of threads in XK8/XKR and X308 forums on this topic.

Thanks, GGG. Just before I made the 'Big Leap', I did read up on about everything Jaguar on this forum. Jeezus, you'd think these cars last about a week then explode. But then all forums are like that. People with problems. We've got 3 cars with tilty steering wheels. One manual. The '88 Olds Rocket 88. I've wondered how long the wires will bend after 6 million tilts.

Hello, back again. Thanks, Ntimd8.

Back for the ~One Year Road Test. It was ~one year ago last Sept/Oct when an '05 XK8 happened in the driveway. Also, the plan wasn't to add onto this thread, but start a new one year report thread. Because it was already added to, here's the report.
I wish I had something to report. Something like it threw the cam chain. Not funny. It still does have the cold morning tick in the lifter area. First start-up in the morning. Ticks for a couple of minutes then is gone for the rest of the day. It started first morning out from Chicago in a boring chain motel. One of too many. My Mechanic buddy and I have gone round and round about the ticking lifter and have decided to leave well enough alone. My '94 Infiniti Q45 had the same thing at 10028. Morning tick. The car ran the same for 300,000. The '05 XK should do the same. Or even more. If it gets worse, we'll fix it. If it only bothers me for 2 minutes per day, then live with it.
So, about 200 miles into the trip from Chicago to 100 miles north of Seattle.
'Bout a year ago.

And this would be this morning.

It would be nice to have a litany of expensive repairs done on a monthly basis. No kidding. This car was purchased to be a daily driver. Oh, and also an '05 XK8. With 50,000 miles on it. Silver on black. And not Stolen&Recovered three times. The third guy was pretty neat. Other than the two window micro-switchem' things in the doors that fell apart in the first week, there have been no problems I can think of. The steering wheel still needs a bump or two to get going. That started in the second week. I just use it less. Hasn't gotten any worse. Love the car. Lots of Oooos and Ahhs.
