Default Roadside assistance: Jaguar vs AAA vs auto insurance company

Hey folks...

So, we all have 24-hour roadside assistance on our F-Types (the recent thread on the JLR roadside assistance is here.)

I am wondering if it is still worthwhile to invest in something like AAA (or pay for the optional roadside assistance provided with most auto insurance plans) or is the JLR service good enough? It is free, which is always a plus.

This came up in a conversation and got me thinking. To me it seems redundant and a bit wasteful to pay for multiple similar services if they are equivalent, or close enough.

Of course AAA offers additional services and discounts beyond strict roadside assistance so it may not be a 100% apples-to-apples comparison. Personally I don't think I ever used any of the other AAA services when I had it, so to me it may not be relevant.

Thoughts?

AAA hands down, I always save more than what I pay for their services. I literally make money having AAA. It took a while for my wife to join the bandwagon but after getting additional discounts even in the factory outlets (GAP etc for the kids clothes) near our house she is all in. You really just have to ask if they offer AAA discounts, even where it is not obvious.

When I've needed assistance, AAA has shown up fast, and keeps you constantly informed of status via text messages. I'm not going to mess with that formula. I have 3 other cars also covered under my membership, so it's not really duplicative except for the jag.

What I like about the AAA Platinum is that they will tow your car 250 miles any where you want to go! Not just the the nearest dealer or Joe Blow"s tire repair. A number of times I just had a car towed home because I knew I could fix it, Or I've had one towed from my house to another house. They take you where you want to go(which is huge!). Plus they"ll cover any car your with, it doesn't have to be yours.

I don't know about Jaguar, but I have used Fords and they come asap, they are really good.

I think #1 reason not to use Jag is to have it towed anywhere you want.

+1. Jag dealers aren't tire experts. It's best to have the car taken to a good performance tire shop for best service and prices.

AAA Premier coverage has save my and our four children's butts more than once. It is cardholder based so when any of ours were stuck they called showed card and whether it was their car or not, tire was changed, battery jumped, started was slapped with wrench to start or tow was made within 150 miles to place of choice.

Children drove 68 Skylark, 70 Riviera, 90 Supra and 96 328IS

Wife 87 Celebrity wagon, 93 240 Wagon and 04 Sante Fe

Me 88 IROCZ, 88 Brougham D'Elegance, 96Z28(1LE) and 06 GTO.
