Default Thoughts on lumping a series iii jaguar

During a recent trip to Miami I saw a 1984 Series III for sale with a locked up engine at a repair shop. The engine was partially dismantled and the owner of the car was willing to part with the car for what was owed to the mechanic for his labor and $300.00 for him. (Total $800.00) The body is in good condition and the interior is good. Having said that, in my other post about the Series 1 I recently acquired, I mentioned that it was lumped using a John's Car conversion kit, so I have the kit, driveshaft ,ramhorn exhaust manifolds, exhaust header pipes etc. I also have a 1983 Firebird (totally rusted out) with a 305 TBI engine and a 700R4 tranny as a donor car. My first question is whether the kit used on the series I which has a 305 motor and a 350 trans work on the series III if i am putting the engine/trans combo from the Firebird. Second question is if I am using the TBI harness from the Firebird, how will I mate the GM Electrical harness to the Jaguar Electrical System or do I have to purchase a complete harness from a vendor that is plug and play. As I am writing this the owner of the Jaguar called me and said that if I was really interested, he would lower the price to $700.00. Based on that I think I am going to get the car today. However, I need some input since I have most of what I would need on hand to do the conversion. The one thing I will have to check is whether the driveshaft will be the same size for the gm 350 and the 700R4 tranny. I am heading down to Miami now to purchase the car. Hope I have some answers when I get back. Wish me luck.

Sanchez;

It will work. But, check on reg's in your state. t would not be legal in CA. 83 motor in 84 car.ere it would need be 84 in 84. But, the 83 and 84 Bird systems might be so close as to get past the special referee used here.

I can't say as to the drive shaft. Entirely possible. And relatively esasy for fiz or replace.

I chose a "plug and play" harness. Not true. At least two major errors in it cost me a bunch... And, it was far from cheap!!!

If you have a modicum of electric creds, do your own.

You need the S57 schematic for the 84 Jaguar and the same for the Fire bird.

Ignition and start circuits similar. Alternator the same. Sensors for OP and temperature from the Jaguar to the SBC. You will probably need adapters.

Speedo a bit more tricky. Mechnical to electric???,

The tach needs a mod. GM pulse to Jag pulse differ.

Andrew Weinberg of Jaguar-specialties did a similar car with a lot of success.
Google and find his web site. XLNt material and a good guy. Located circa
San Jose, CA.

Same for Sun Coast in Punta Gordo (sp) FLA.
