Cool First Jag

Hi, I'd like to introduce myself and tell you how I bought my Jag. My name is Al and I've always wanted a Jag since I was a kid and raced them on my Strombecker slot car set back in the early 60's. I stumbled across my 1999 XJ8.when I went to a junk yard to buy parts for my Bonneville SSEi. Parked in a "used car" area of various autos in disrepair was a spotless, inside and out, Tan colored Jag. The car had a broken secondary timing chain and was priced at $3995. This car only had 80,000 miles on it. The previous owner always had it serviced at a Jag dealer and had recently put on new tires, new rotors and pads, and a full tank of premium gas. I was not working every day and decided to let it go. The next time I came back for more parts the Jag was still there and the price was marked down to $3595. I still did not bite but now I could not stop thinking about it. I did some homework and parts pricing and decided to make an offer. When I went back the price was marked down again to $2995, so I decided to offer $2000. The attendant said that he could get that much just for the transmission and said that he needed at least $2700. I countered with $2500 and he accepted. That was last August and I was working full time again so the Jag had to sit until I had time. Over the winter I checked the valves and pistons on one side to make sure they weren't damaged and they were good. I replaced the tensioners etc. carefully because I had never worked on a car like this. Low and behold after a little cylinder wash trouble shooting, it started. Wow! What a rush! I have been driving it every weekend since and can't get enough. A factory 6 CD player is all it needed. So now I cruise with my tunes. I have used the Jag Forums several times and finally decided to join and I am looking forward to many enjoyable years driving my Jag.

Hi Al,

You're a very lucky guy! Did you play the lottery as well that day?

Good luck with the "new" ride!
