Default First Time Jaguar Owner

Hey, Just recently was in the market for a used car and found a listing on Ebay which was A 97 JAGUAR XJ6. So i put a bid in and wound up winning the car. This is the first time Ive driven anything but a FORD and im hoping the JAG is more reliable with less problems. The car i noticed has a bit of a tick in the motor, and some small spots of oil leaking underneath. although the top half of the motor looks good, im not familiar with these cars and troubleshooting. I think this car would be more reliable then my FORD but im wondering what the most common problems are that i should look out for as well as what kind of oil i should use and if i should *** a half quart of marvel mystery oil for the first couple hundred miles. Thanks

Welcome to the forum,

Good to have you with us.
Head on over to the tech section and ask the guys what they think.

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know if you would find the Jaguar any more reliable than a Ford (which Ford?). It is a used car and over a decade old so much will depend on the care it has received over the years.

Browse the XJ section, do some searching for common problems and such. The nice thing is that there is a ton of info on here and people willing to help, as long as you are willing to crawl around a little and let us know what you see on your car.

I wouldn't add anything to the motor yet - have you changed the oil or do you know the last time the oil was changed?

How many miles are on the car?

- Address the items above in your thread on the Tech forum or XJ forum and I bet you get some good info.

Again, welcome and stop by often, and congrat's on your new Jag!
