Default First time Jaguare owner S-Type 4.2 (2005)

Hello all,

I just purchased a 2005 S-Type with the 4.2 liter engine. The Dealer said it came with a 6-speed auto transmission but I only see a 5 gear selection. I also noticed transmission fluid seeping on the transmission cooler hose as well as the pan. I purchased this car for $8,800 with 93K on the odometer expecting fixes. It drives firm, shifts smoothely and everything else is pretty tight. Can anyone offer good advice to a 1st time Jaguar driver?

John

Hello John and welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new to you S Type.

Please add vehicle details to your signature, it will help us help you in the future.

Please post up any technical questions in the proper section, in your case the S Type/S Type Supercharged. The problems stated are somewhat common as you will read if you do a search.

You have the ZF6HP26 gearbox which is indeed a 6 speed transmission.

Welcome to the forum,

Good to have you with us.
There are only 5 positions marked in the J gate area of the shifter which allows you to make "manual" changes but there are 6 ratios in the box.

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Thanks for tip all,

Can anyone tell me how to edit after I post. I realized I had a mispelling due to FAT finger typing.

Thanks again,

The day after I took ownership, I put on some new tires on my Jaguar. Today as I was driving back to work from lunch, the Jag idled rough and a CEL popped up indicating "Restricted Performance". I had no idea what that meant so I took it to the shop for evaluation. It took my whole afternoon from my job. The Technician told me there were several codes for misfires on 6 out my 8 cylinders and that it was running lean. No codes on the tranny although it was seeping fluid. The technician will be working on it tomorrow for the vacuum leak and transmission service. It looks like the guy that sold me the car deleted the code prior to sale and now it shows.

That's a bummer. Congrat's on the new ride though. If you go over to the S-Type section you'll find all kinds of info on the "Restricted Performance" and things to check (like coils).

Welcome aboard!
