Flex Plate and Ring Gear replacement 2007 Jag X type
I have been told that my ring gear is worn on my flexplate which shows up when you attempt to start the vehicle the starter engages the flywheel but does not turn the motor over. After several attempts the starter finally engages and the vehicle starts and runs fine. So my question is how much does it cost to replace that flexplate and ring gear assembly. The shop said it could take up to 3 days..........the vehicle has 123K miles and runs great looks great......so I am opting to repair it. Just want to know a ball park on the cost. I live in Tucson Arizona
Hello, Edward,
You should get a firm estimate from the shop doing the work. Then you'll at least have a starting place.
However, if you decide to let them change the ring gear, be sure they change the starter too unless it's a relatively new unit, so that you'll have a new pinion meshing with the new ring gear.

Welcome to the forums Edward,
Good advice from Elinor. It is going to be expensive and you need a fixed quote in advance. Once it's in pieces, the shop has you over a barrel. The phrase "up to 3 days" suggests to me they haven't done this before.
