Hello need help! 99 Jaguar S Type Transmission
Hi!
I have a beautiful 99 Jaguar S type 3.0 Automatic Transmission that has a problem.
200,000 km
TRANSMISSION: Start car - short warm up period or longer does not matter, When I shift from P to D car has hesitation then "jumps into gear" - no noise in doing so.
When I come to a stop - it seems like it fades out of gear - then goes back into gear with slight acceleration.
* I have noticed that cruising along or acceleration - seems to slip once in a while.
* TRANSMISSION FAILURE light came on for the first time.
* Seems to be making a rattling sound within the transmission case.
*** Anybody out there able to give me a "diagnosis?"
Thank You!
Ron

Welcome.
The S Type section is the place for the technical questions.
BUT
If that kms has not had a transmission fluid change and filter change at least twice, I suggest the trans is in bad shape.
The "rattling" you mention is more than likely the torque convertor failing due to that fluid issue.
Depending how blessed you are, a fluid drop and refill may give a new life, maybe not.
That Ford 5R55N transmission is STRONG, but fresh fluid is its lifeblood. 80K kms is the recognised fluid drop and refill preriod to keep that transmission alive.
