Good Day
Hello JF!
I just joined after lurking for a few weeks. I don't have ride yet. I am currently lurking there, also.
Here is part of my story:
Since I was allowed to drive, I've had a trucks. I recently went overboard - according to my wife - when I bought an F250 diesel crew cab long bed. It's A LOT of truck. So what's the problem? It might be too much truck for my 7-mile trip to work. We live pretty much IN Atlanta so the 7 miles might still drag out to 45 minutes of stop-n-stop traffic. I'm certain a diesel engine isn't required for this sort of commute. My wife is certain she doesn't want that huge, loud truck at her house. Now, I'm sure enough of us know women well enough to know we know nothing about women. I am solidly in that category. OK, enough of that.
I just got the truck a month ago and it's for sale already. Ah well, such is married life. For a replacement vehicle, I thought I'd go to the other end of the spectrum: Jag. I really like the 98-03 XJ8's. I don't know much more about them other than what I've read here. The wife thinks it's a great idea.
One question that I have is "What does it take to repair/swap a motor with the Nikasil cylinder linings and is it worth taking on this sort of project for a noo-bee?" I have minimal skills and basic tools. I have never owned a Jag, but I have admired them since I was young.

Welcome, cool intro and have valid points . After a truck Jaguar will be feeling like no other driving experience . Smooth and cossy ride
Nikasil engines were really hamstring in the past but I reckon thanks to sulphur free fuels it will become no longer an threat to owners .
Not all the '98-'03 engines were suffered from nikasil as far as I know . Engine # would tell you truth .
You can also check out proper forum for your questions and better responses
Enjoy your ride

Welcome aboard!
You will notice from my signature that my other vehicle is an '02 Excursion. Not quite as big as your truck but as close as I could get and have three rows of seating. That is the wife's rig, me on the other hand, just went the direction you are now looking at and purchased a '99 XJR. This is the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. I have owned Audi's, Volvo's, VW, Cadillac's, Chryslers, and my favorite muscle car a '70 `Cuda 340. There is no comparing this car to any of them. Find the right one and you will fall in love!
Good luck.
