Default Greetings from Southern California

Good Afternoon Jaguar Enthusiasts!
I am a 30 year old enthusiast from the Los Angeles area, I was fortunate enough to purchase a 1965 Jaguar 3.8 S back in late 2019, but I ended up selling in March of 2020 due to some expensive maintenance needs (the car was not used frequently or maintained properly by the previous owner). Still, it whet my appetite for Jaguars and I am looking for my next big cat.
As I will need another daily driver and since me and my wife are expecting twins, a more modern classic Jag will be needed. I'm thinking the 2004-2008 S-Type, as it is a modern update to my old car yet has the safety features and amenities needed for the daily commute. And prices are reasonable right now. After the S-Type, the X300 series of cars looks like another logical choice. Basically, it must evoke the sportiness and classic feel of the 1960's models. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums Ccrowley,

Both S-Type and X300 have a large and loyal following. Of the two, the X300 has the best reputation for reliability. However, with any used Jaguar, condition is everything.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum and this one to the X300 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' threads at the top are a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-western-38/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thank you Graham, I appreciate the excellent advice! Will do, I will check these forum links and also reach out to some local members. Once I find a suitable example of either (although I am leaning towards the X300 now, as it is a larger car), I would like to have a pre purchase inspection done by a Jaguar specialist. That was something I didn't do on my old 3.8 S and it cost me dearly. Thank you again and I look forward to being a member of the club!

Welcome to the Forums.

I have had both the S Type and the X300, AND I am down here.

The X300 would be hands down the "keeper" for me, with the S VERY close behind.

Your market, and as Graham mentioned, past care is the yes/no of any Jaguar.

Good luck.
