Default Hello from Ascot

My name is Aidan Killian
I have a 1999 XJ8 3.2 with 124k on the clock.
It has an AJ27 nikasil engine, which seems to be going fine.
I bought it in 2001 and it was very reliable up until 2009 when:
The stability control unit went
The timing tensioners went
Both cylinder head gaskets went

Needless to say I now use an independant Jaguar specialist:
Tom Lenthall, near Reading. I find him very good.

Please do not delete my account; I spend a lot of time online in places like this trying to figure out what is wrong with my Jag.

Why would we delete your account? If you don't do anything wrong, AND you are a reasonably regular poster (a couple or three per month), would give us no reason to.

So, Welcome to the forum, sounds like you have recently had a bit of a time of things.

You have finally found one of the best places for good tech' advice about your Jag + some off the wall stuff over in the Off Topic section.

My trusty x308 developed a bottom end knock and is gone to the big scrapyard in the sky (well, Wokingham, Berkshire, UK to be precise).
After a few months driving my backup car, I now own a 2000 x200 (3.0 V6 SEs) with all the goodies and only 70k miles.
It had spent 5 years sitting in a nice dry garage.
I am working my way through some teething problems:
misfire (oil on plug insulator) done
steering column electronics (disconnected when hand controls fitted) done
bad rear door lock (part sourced but struggling to fit)
de-laminated crankshaft pulley (looking for Ford, Lincoln or aftermarket alternative)

Welcome back to the forum jaidank,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

As you've been a member longer than I have, you shouldn't need a link from me to the S-Type forum.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks everybody!
I never really left; I always found this forum invaluable as I kept my beloved x308 on the road; I just never posted much because everybody else seemed more knowledgeable.

Time moves on and I now have a second S Type, another 3.0 V6 (this time 2005 face lift, bought from my son who could not afford to run it).
I have take the mileage up to 86k miles and have retrofitted a CD changer, X Type bluetooth and voice.
(Jeremy Clarkson is full of sh*t; I am finding Jaguar voice great; reading the manual did not hurt though).
My next project is Jaguar sat nav retrofit (I know, the maps stop at 2011/2012) inspired by this forum.
I still have my 2000 S Type too; its just too nice to let go.
