Default Hello Everybody

Hey, everyone. I'm a new member and 1st time owner of a Jaguar. I bought a 1996 XJ-12 a couple weeks ago as a driving-around-town car for our place in Palm Springs, CA.

During the process of buying, I was Google-ing all i could think of related to Jaguars...mostly because all I ever heard was how expensive they are to repair if something should go wrong. This forum was always at the top of Google Search results and I feel like I was able to get some real-world insight into owning a Jaguar from your posters.

We'll see...maybe I bought a money-pit, but in the meantime I'm loving this car! Come on...it has fold-down tray tables in the back seat! Who could not fall in love with that?

Happy driving -
Ross

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you have already found your way to the X351 tech forum so there's no need for a link to it fro me.

Welcome to the exclusive Jaguar ownership experience! Big congratulations to you for jumping right in, with your new XJ12! She's quite a machine. I'm happy to see anyone take on one of these cars nowadays, the X305 XJ12 forum can be a lonely place!

You'll want to take her out on the highway now and then. You'll be amazed at the quiet and effortless pace you can keep!

Summer's coming... give her the attention she deserves and check all the cooling hoses. Make sure they are not worn out or loose. Belts too - the water pump is belt driven. Replace the coolant if you don't know it's been done within the last couple of years.

I love the way people are often surprised that this model has a V12 engine. It is quite uncommon! I feel like I'm keeping a little (or big) secret whenever I'm out in mine.

See you around X300 and especially X305!!

Fantastic car. Welcome aboard.

I had a car like yours with the 6-cylinders. Parts were quite a bit cheaper than for my 2005 Toyota Tacoma, and frankly the Jag needed them less often. I put 63,000 miles on it over four years, even through our nasty winters.

Enjoy yours....that's a pretty special motor.

Thanks for the tips SleekJag12! I've got it in the shop now doing some hose replacement...things I knew we had to do going into it...they came up during the inspection we had done prior to the sale. I've now asked them to change out the coolant, too.
