Welcome to the forums Nicsplat,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the New Zealand Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/new-zealand-97/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hi thanks for the welcome everybody. I'm just doing a little work with my car getting it running properly and changing radiator hoses, oil etc. This car has been in a garage since 2005 and not moved. So time spent cleaning fuel tanks of rotten fuel......big thing here is the car is not rusty anywhere.
Cheers Nick

When the XJ's were current in the 70's, mine used to gradually start dissolving from the bottom up after about three years. The English rain and road salt combined to rot them fast. Always amazes me seeing photos on the forum of how well they survive in both Australia and New Zealand.

Yes they do well here, no salt on our roads and I think my car has been kept out of the weather (at least for the last 14 years with the previous owner) going by the condition of the interior as it has been in storage in a dry garage....
I've not been able to find any corrosion anywhere so far.............

Typical problem starts with rust at the ends of the sills and the lip of the rear wheelarches. Tops of the front wings rot through above the headlamps. As it progresses, the front of the bonnet and the bottom of the doors go. The rear quarter panels and rear panel also suffer. If you had a rust problem, you would definitely know it and I can't see any signs on the front photo.
