slow start squeal and low voltage that increases as engine idles
1995 xj6 vanden plas
Over a 6 month period of infrequent use, starting became slower with a loud squeal after started. Approx 2 months prior to no start, voltage gauge showed low until a few minutes idle.depressing gas pedal made squeal subside and voltage increase to 15. upon crank one cold morning, engine started slowly then died violently with a wheeze and a smell like burning plastic. I charged the battery and attempted unsuccessfully to start her once. she did not start and I have left her sit til now but would like to fix and drive her.
When running I had no issues with acceleration or idle, she was getting 19 mpg....HELP?

Welcome to the forum Eric,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
With those symptoms, I'd start by checking the drive belt and alternator pulley/bearing.
