Smile Hello from the UK...

Hi,

My name is Mike, aged 53 (that looks like a big number when its written down) and I live in the UK but have enrolled in this forum as I believe it will be full of useful information for me as a first time owner of an XJ8.

In fact you have already helped! I am now in the process of "butchering" my CD changer to allow MP3 connectivity, at a grand cost of £2.47 for a 15m mini jack to RCA lead! (Thank you ebay...)

I have owned my car for 2 weeks and already fitted a second hand towbar and electrics thanks to help from the UK forum. I find it really interesting to discover the inner workings of my cars. I now know the bumper removal issues and where some parts are in relation to each other, have experienced drilling out bolts for the first time and can now embark on some electrical skullduggery and interior trim manipulation! What fun of an evening or my days off. I am not married!

I have also found these sites to be really useful in researching for the purchase and (I am hoping) avoiding the pitfalls of the tensioner and engine lining issues, settling for a late 1999 car with the chassis numbers that correspond to second generation tensioner factory fitment. With a bit of luck I have got the Nikasil lining that will make my engine as strong as a Turkish coffee and late enough not to have been eaten by the lead monster.

Have fun!

Welcome to the forum Mike,

You've had a busy first two weeks of ownership.

Follow Steve's link to the X308 section if you haven't already found it for yourself.

Enjoy the XJ8 and the forum.

Graham

Smile Thank you

Thanks for the replies and welcome. Thanks Jim for the upgrade. I am going to post my experience in fitting a towbar for what it is worth, although I don't have any of my own photos as I had not planned it this way!
