Hi - 2nd Jag restore
Hi All,
I have been viewing this forum for a few months and have gained much valuable insight from members like Rev. Sam and Gus - in addition to many others, so I figured it was time to chime in and introduce myself. I'm typically too busy working to post anything, but if I discover something important or one-off that's not already covered here, I'll do my best to get it written up.
I've begun restoring my second Jaguar. This one is a 2001 XK8 with about 54k on it. The last one was a 1976 XJ-6L with about 80k on it and I worked on it for nearly 20 years before finally selling it a short time ago. When I started on the XJ-6L project, not many of these types of online forums existed so it's very good to know this valuable resource is available now. I kept her completely stock - down to the clock that I found sitting in the original box from 1975 on a shelf in an Australian Jaguar garage. Vastly different cars from vastly different era's in Jaguar's design and manufacturing process. With all the innovation and technology that's been put into the cars from then to now, it's been like watching a child grow up.
Although I enjoyed working on the more mechanical systems of the older car with it's dual Stromberg carbs, etc., I also enjoy the advanced electronics, advanced features and styling of the newer, sportier XK8. I am an electronics/data system troubleshooter by trade so troubleshooting this car's CAN data network is second nature to me. Definitely more time consuming than the 70's tech of the XJ6, but I do enjoy it.
I'm looking forward to keeping up on everything as much as I can here. I'll see you in the threads.

Hello, Gig,
I just got my Xj6L 2-1/2 years ago, it just last week turned over 80,000 miles (had 73,000 when it came to me). It's the Prettiest car I ever had, bar none!
I'll be driving it until something breaks that simply can't be fixed; and then I'll find a way around it and drive it some more.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome Gig, we're glad you've finally signed up so you can share some of that electrical and COM protocol expertise! For me, that's the scariest thing about our cars, and understanding them...and troubleshooting them is the most difficult part. I'm looking forward to seeing your first big writeup while you begin your restoration!

Welcome to the forum Gig,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
It sounds like you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link US Northeast - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
