Default Hi from South Australia

Hi all, I'm new to Jaguar Forums but not new to Jaguar.
In the past I've owned a 1963 E-Type Roadster and a 1977 XJS, both beautiful exciting cars.
At the moment I'm thinking about getting back into a Jag for everyday use, something thats a little up market from the ordinary everyday transport.
I have been following the S-Type on the secondhand market, probably a 2003-2006 2.5 or 3.0Lt, hopefully something that reasonably reliable.

Welcome back to the real world of motoring.

Plenty of S Types out there. Just do the homework very carefully.

Welcome to the forum Michael

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums. That's two models I'll bet you wished you'd kept.

Follow this link S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the S-Type section for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the Australia/New Zealand Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/australia-new-zealand-51/ to find other members in your part of the World.

Good luck finding your next Jaguar. Enjoy the forum.

Graham

The S Type down here was a car that was "bagged" by many.

The sealed transmission for example, often called an Exploder transmission. They need to be serviced (fluid mainly) very 80k kms MAX. If this is not done trans life is compromised.

Ours was at 119k kms when we found it, and the trans fluid had been changed at 90k. I did it when we got home, and it was grubby, and 6 drop and refill since then has it as sweet as I want, so a pan off and filter will be done when the time permits.

If you want the 6 speed ZF car, read the items at the top of the S Type section regarding the sleeve, cable connector, etc.

Basically look at and drive as many cars as possible, which is hard in SA, hence ours came from Vic.

Look for service records, and the use of teh correct fluids, especially engine oil.

Contact the service people whose stamp appears in the books, and the old owner, I did, no issues.

Make sure the 2 remotes actually work, they are expensive if hissy.

Then, leave emotion at home, very hard that one, but a must in my book.

Michael,

Being very careful what I say for obvious reasons.

That X202 is a 2.5ltr, so a small engine for that size car in my opinion. Might be just fine for you however?. I have had tooooo many V12's, so I am having hosrepower withdrawals at the moment, so an S "R is being considered.

The X308's I reckon have been up there for a very long time, and I know nothing of them. There has been a UK import in Adelaide popping up from time to time also.

The X308 Sov with 162K kms on it is known to me, and is as described. The owner is fussy to the point of being a PAIN. He has tooooooo many Jags, and we have slowly convinced him to move a few on. His Conv XJ-S is gone so far. He has a S1 Manual 4.2, in original condition, another S1 XJ6 he has owned from nearly new, another S1 V12, etc, etc. He lives only a few streets from me.

Michael,

You've already passed the minimum 10 Post count and tomorrow will complete the 3 Days membership also required for full forum privileges. From that time you can use forum PM (Private Messages) to communicate directly and privately with another member.

You might find this useful when asking opinions about a particular vehicle available for sale.

Graham
