Default Hi from the Wirral, UK

Hi, my name is Ade (rhymes with "fade", "paid" or "maid", er not that I'm a maid...).

I've always liked Jags, but for years could never afford one. Then, one fateful day about 12 years ago, I got talked into buying a 3-year-old S-type, an early 2000 model. Well, it damn near killed me financially - everything that could go wrong with that car did - I had problems with the engine, had to replace the expansion tank, a window regulator broke in the middle of a cold winter's day drive, I couldn't put it in Park on the driveway because it would get stuck & need both hands & all my strength on the lever to get it back again. Lovely drive, though, very comfy, and on the day I rather reluctantly decided to sell it, it ate its gearbox...

So, as you can imagine, all things Jaguar were off the map for a while....

3 years ago, I crashed whilst driving Dad's tricked out Capri at Oulton Park, writing it off. We were sharing the car for a season, I having had to sell mine for financial reasons. I'd been racing a Capri, on & off, since 1998, but the crash was enough to put me off for a while. But.. once bitten... so I started scouring the ads for a suitable replacement. And so, I ended up the proud(?) owner of a 1977 XJS pre-HE V12. The car had been stored under a tarpaulin since 1996, and had suffered badly. LOTS of rot, engine wouldn't run (there was some evidence of attempts to get it going), brakes were all seized on - in other words, perfect race car material. Too far gone to sensibly restore for the road, but weld up the holes & get the engine going, it doesn't matter that the interior is knackered, because it's coming out. £300 and a 600 mile round-trip later, I got going. The project is still very much in progress, there was a long hiatus for various reasons, but the main reason I'm here now is because I need to ask questions... they'll be coming soon, don't worry I started a build thread over on another forum I'm a member on, rather than duplicate it, have a look here if you're interested: Jaguar XJS V12 racing car

In the meantime, my daily smoker started to show signs of excessive age, and so, by some slightly convoluted logic, I actually ended up buying a 2001 XJR as my daily car. Oops! I just hope it doesn't do what the old S-type did to me.... but TBH, if it does show signs of being a lemon, well, I could always stick that rather lovely supercharger on top of the V12

My XJR

Anyway, thanks for having me on here, and I hope to end up with an XJS that's at least interesting, and hopefully completely mental, for your enjoyment (and mine, of course!)

Hello, Ade,
You certainly had a Baaaaaad Kitty with that S-type! And it does sound like your XJS will be the Perfect race car!
