Default Hi to you all Plus......Data

Hi all
I put my hands up - I have no JLR !
My reason for subscribing is due to an article on the BBC website which might warrant your attention? Maybe not..........

Take a look at https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-51206752

Read through and it says:
Jurors were also told a Land Rover Discovery belonging to Mr Whall's partner - who was away on holiday - had a system which recorded data of its use and showed the vehicle being used in the area for a recce the night before the shooting and then at the time Mr Corrigan was shot.

As well as tracking the car's location, the device also had details such as when the car was locked and unlocked, when a door or the boot was opened and closed, and each time the engine was switched on and off.

The car was found two weeks later burnt out at a disused quarry near Bangor and the defendant said it had been stolen.

While the system was destroyed in the fire, the information about its movements was retained centrally by Jaguar Land Rover.

I wonder how it records centrally at JLR and whether it contravenes the GDPR?

Any thoughts?
Regards

Welcome to the forums Irbobk,

Although not specified, it appears the article refers to JLR InControl Tracker:

https://www.jaguar.co.uk/incontrol/i...ty/secure.html

This communicates through a SIM using the vehicle as a WiFi hotspot. InControl Tracker is available for owners to track their own vehicle if they choose to activate and use it. It is not some Machiavellian plot by JLR to surreptitiously spy on customers and I can think of no way it contravenes GDPR.
