Default Hood stop tool

I'm a new member. I have a '88 & 89 XJS coupe, a ''92 XJS convertible. I live in east Texas. I'm looking for a tool to put between the hood strut and the inside of the fender. It keeps the hood from closing on you. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

I use an old broom handle cut to suit.

Welcome neighbor. I go to car shows every weekend and one of my classics has its original nitrogen gas filled hood struts that still work inside the garage, but are too weak to resist a gust of wind outdoors. I've seen all sorts of things used to prop open a hood at a car show, from broom handles, to big wrenches, to baseball bats to toy guns. I'd rather have something stealthy. Its not a rat rod and its all original. To keep the hood from being blown down on an unsuspecting spectator, I came up with a nearly invisible solution.

In the plumbing section of most any hardware store, they sell semi-rigid black poly tubing for irrigation systems. Usually they have like 18" or 24" straight tubes for less than a $1. I cut it to the length of the chrome strut tube rod and then slit it lengthwise down one side. I cut a little v notch at the ends of the slit. When I open the hood at a car show, I pop the irrigation tube over the chrome strut rod and then the hood won't come down. When the car show is over, I remove the irrigation tube and close the hood. Been using it for ten years or so and not yet has anyone even noticed my safety hood support that I know of.
