Hopeful new XK8 owner
Hi Guys and (hopefully) Gals;
My name's Peter and I've been lurking for a while while I was casing a '97 XK8. It looks like it may go through now, so I wanted to post with some questions about the condition of the car and the deal. but first the intro....
My driver is a 2008 Mustang (Bullitt) and the garage queen is a '66 Mustang convertible. I guess you could say I'm a Mustang guy but I'm really just a car guy. I like to find cars with potential, play with them for a while, and move on if the mood strikes. My last project was a fun 2006 Saab convertible and I held onto that for a year and a half. While I had it (and the Mustangs) I picked up a first gen TT and turned that around pretty quickly--the wife was not happy with 4 cars in addition to hers.
But the XK8 could be something a little more permanent. They seem to be pretty conducive to DIY projects, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get the one I've been scoping. Here's hoping!

Welcome to the forum Peter,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Hey Peter,
welcome to this group...very nice, no flamers, and always helpful, with very useful pointers to all sorts of questions. My car, a lovely 2000 silver XK-8 convert, silver body/black top... (like possibly yours) might need a water pump somewhere in future, (plastic originally) and also change the timing gear tensioners from plastic to steel. Not going to be inexpensive, but I love this car... a 'Road" car, not a little rallye car you can fling about, but when you put your foot down, it will say, "immediately, sir, and AWAY you go"... at about 2+ gs into the couch... Enjoy... Howard
