I didn't know that was what I was doing, but that's what happened
Hello all. I have bought an 1985 XJ6, my second one actually. The first I bought out of an apartment complex parking lot back in the late 1990's for $300.00, non running of course. I had a guy working for me part time who was a brilliant wrench and he was able to get it going. I remember taking it for a drive and within the first mile being so impressed with the way it handled. Although I really liked the car I didn't have time for it. Another fellow working for me then wanted it so I sold it to him ( I don't remember for how much, probably for $600.00). He pulled the Jag 6 and put a Chrysler 360 engine and auto trans in it drove it for a while. The last I remember it, it was sitting in his driveway broken. He moved on and I'm not sure what happened to the car.
Recently while browsing FB Market place I came across another 85 XJ6, and this one had a 350 TPI Chevrolet Camaro engine and a 700R4 transmission. It was non-running, but the price was quite attractive. Evidently so much so the sellers phone was quite busy with interested potential buyers, so I hooked up the trailer and drove the 50 miles to get it right away. The seller mentioned that it had been in the family since new and they had put the SBC engine in it and that it had a fuel pump problem. The sale price was attractive enough that a I decided that the risk was acceptable and loaded it up.
What I didn't know I was doing was buying not only the sellers fuel pump problem, but also an ignition system that refuses to energize the spark plugs. I have long heard Jaguars have wiring problems so it certainly is no surprise that it has other electrical problems, nevertheless it's certainly not a welcome surprise. I was hoping to get it moving under its own steam for ease of mobility. But thus far, no joy. I think my next move is to pull the front seats to make getting to the dash wiring easier. Of course, any advice or experience with these modified cars is certainly welcome. Until I can get it fired up, it will just have to be pushed on and off the lift.

Oh my, when I get the bit in my teeth I don't like to spit it out before the job is concluded but, I'm going to have to put this one off to the side while another vehicle gets my attention.. I know from prior experience that wire chasing can consume days. Days I don't have to devote to this Jag atm. It is a rub to have to back burner it unresolved, but sometimes answers come when we walk away from a problem...
