Default I'm a Bond, Should have a DB5, I bought XJ8 instead

I bought a 2006 XJ8 a little over a year ago. Its a great car with unusually low miles from a little old couple living in the The Villages. Their son sold it to me.I usually go about doing repair of simple nuisance items myself. For the serious items, I have a great mechanic. I just like to know what is occurring with the car so I can decide if it's in my wheelhouse or not. I hope I can contribute as much as I absorb from this forum.

My father was a Cadillac Oldsmobile dealer during the 50's 60's 70's. He was the first Toyota dealer east of the Missisippi. I started working in the service/parts/body area when I was 10, so I know a good deal about cars. Somethings have remained essentially the same, and boy have some changed dramatically.

Sadly, the Oil Embargo of 1973 scared me away from cars as a career. It broke my father's heart. It did not change my enthusiasm for cars though. I've had over forty cars during the years, and some are great ones. They've mostly been used cars since I was pretty aware of the car's condition. Some of my better cars have been my 75 Saab 99 EMS, my 74 BMW 2002, and my 93 Porsche 968 convertible. I have bought a few new cars over the years; my last new car was in 1999. It was a 2000 Ford Expedition, and I still have it.

In 2010, I bought an 83 MB 300TE that did not run. Completely went through all the systems on it over the years. It was better in the snow than the Saab was. In 2018, an enthusiast said he had to have it. My girlfriend said PLEASE sell it to him.

I now have the Jaguar. I should have a DB5.

OMG. How could I leave out my 67 Olds 442 big block with tri-power that beat The Judge everyday, and I sold it for a Datsun 260Z that I drove weekly from Marco Island to Ft Lauderdale in a little more than an hour. Those were the days.

Being a government employee, Bond couldn't have actually afforded a DB5, rather only because Q provided an armored one as part of his cover. Now the XJ (X351) was the car that M had. I suppose its only natural to aspire to have the kind of car your boss has, but you are a generation too early.
