Unhappy intermitant restricted performance

Hi,I have a 1999 xj8 3.2 litre saloon with 74,000 ks on the clock. It shows the restricted performance and orange light every now and then mainly at low speed like in town and slowing down at the traffic lights.I have put new coils in and also new spark plugs. The plugwells had oil in some of them. The rocker cover gaskets were resealed but new ones are on the way.It has not fixed the problem.I took the car down a back road and gave it a blast up to 200ks for a couple of miles to (tune it up).Worked well for the next 1200ks or so but is back to its old nonsence again. It is driving me crazy and costing me heaps.I love the car but my wife is on my back about it all the time.Shorly someone else has had this problem and found the answer. My beautiful Jag cant be the only one in the world to have done this. HELP ME PLEASE. GRAMICK.

Welcome to the forum gramick,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Have you had a code reader on it? Without the DTC's it's all speculation and guesswork on possible causes.

Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the New Zealand Region forum by following this link New Zealand - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

I have had "Restricted Performance" come up and the yellow engine warning light come on. Mechanic put the computer on it and gave the priceless advice.... get on the motorway and give it the bollocks! After an exceptionally hard and fast run (locked in 4th keeping the revs above 4000) which at first was subject to some engine cut outs, the soot in the catalytic converter, caused by many short town runs seems to have been burnt off and the restricted performance signals have gone........
