Smile Intro For Guy Bennett

Hi,

I am just introducing myself. Two weeks ago I purchased a 1981 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 litre engine. I really love it! First care I've ever owned that feels like me. Just took it into the interior of British Columbia Canada - no problems.

I picked up my Grandson Max, who is four, about an hour after buying it, and I wanted him to know that is was special. So I showed him the woodgrain, and got him to listen to the engine (very throaty) and highlighted the retro-knobs, and told him it was manufactured the same year his Mother was manufactured. It is possible I over-did it.

Because in the morning, when it was time to go to preschool I said, "Max we need to go down to the car now."

He whirled on me indignantly and said: "It's not a car - it's a Jag!".

Welcome Guy, From the other coast of Canada.
I too have a grandson about the same age (almost 5) We have a family get together planned for tomorrow, and my grandson will only go if he can ride there in "papa's race car"

Welcome to the forum Guy,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I'm not sure whether you have the four door XJ6 4.2 or the two door XJS retrofitted with a 4.2 engine...?

If it's the four door, follow this link XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ6 Series I, II & III forum; if it's the two door, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xjs-32/ to the XJS forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top of each is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the Canada Region forum by following this link Canada - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Wink Thanks Graham

And others, you were right, I miss-named my own car?!? It is an XJ6. And thank you for the links.

Truthfully, I don't think I am going to do a lot of work on this Jag myself, but at the same time, I'd like to understand how it works.

Awkwardly, I can not think of what informational value-add I bring to this forum. I'll try to get good at cruising and searching the links for issues already covered.

Amazing forum.

Guy,

It's not difficult to make a mistake with Jaguar model names. They produced six different models all badged XJ6 between 1969 and 2009.

Readers of the forum must often get the impression we spend all our time taking our Jaguars to pieces! We also like posts about driving them so if you don't plan on doing much work on the XJ6 Series III yourself, pictures of it in scenic BC locations will be appreciated by many.
