Default Introduction

I don't know if this is the right place or the right format, but the rules say that I MUST introduce myself and post something ten times in five days (!) Okay, here goes. My name here is Dellavar. I don't know if I'm supposed to introduce myself by my actual name or what. I have just purchased a 2005 X-Type 3.0 VDP with 87,000 miles on it. I live in Middletown N.Y. USA. I play piano. I live alone as I hae no family. I'm 71 years old. I think this is where I'm supposed to say something like "I enjoy long walks on the beach..." Well, I don't. If you all are cool with this I'm glad - I'm not much for this computer stuff. If you want or need to know more just ask, I'll confess to anything if you buy me a hamburger.

Welcome to the forum Dellavar,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Right place and right format. You don't HAVE to post 10 times in 5 days. You need to get to 10 posts before gaining full forum privileges. How long you take to do this is up to you.

Follow this link X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US North East Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...t-nj-ny-pa-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

I don't think your actual name is 'required,' but it's nice to put a label on people to distinguish then from other people. We have many members who only go by their screen name.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Dellavar,
Long walks on the beach aren't required, unless your car dies on the side of the road near a beach and you are trying to get cell reception to call a tow truck.

Don the moderator,
I see a line on your communique that says "Garage is empty, add now." I am not quite sure what "Garage" is, but I am assuming this is a part of posts that refers to the member's own car? By "Add now" you mean to write something about my car? I thought I did that. I do own a Jaguar. I will provide a photo, if that is required, as soon as I get my camera to work and can take a picture. I need to find a part of the camera in order to recharge the batteries. I hope to buy that part soon. Are there any specific requirements regarding the photo? Is one photo sufficient? Hopefully I can comply with your order in the next week or so. Thank you for your patience.

Dellavar,
I'm not Don the Moderator but since I'm here I'll try to answer your questions.

Yes, the GARAGE refers to members' own cars; some have entire fleets in their garages and some have none as you have noticed.

Photos are not *Required* but as a group we are interested in the cars owned by other members.

"Add Car Now" is not an order nor is it a requirement for membership here, it's merely a suggestion for anyone who might desire to show off their car(s).

Membership here should not be a hardship on anyone! You don't need to be stressed about your camera not working nor be worried about buying parts for it.

If at some point in the future you can post a photo of your car we would love to see it. There is no time limit, you will not be criticized for not having posted a photo of your car.

Membership and participation should be enjoyable and something to look forward to, not a chore to be dreaded.

Great post ElinorB ... ... My, you're a friendly helpful soul. You really are!

And Dellavar ... don't feel too constricted here. Politeness and mutual respect grow friendliness, and we all want a Jaguar Forums experience that is friendly and rewarding. Beyond that ... don't panic ... we all dive in, crash about a bit, invariably make mistakes (not just the Australians), but we are generally fair and forgiving. Sure, humans make mistakes, but it you want real chaos ... you need a computer. Sometimes mine can't even spell propper/pproper/probba ... aw heck ... can't spell rite.

Now let's get down to it ... If you think ElinorB finds it fun wondering what you might confess to if we buy you a hamburger ... should see what an Aussie will do if you buy me a Jaguar!!! Now then ...

Have fun mate!
Ken

Thank you, guys and gals. My trepidation regarding forum requirements is based on long experience. I have been ejected from many forums over the years, or denied entrance over tiny technical transgressions - I had either forgotten my password, inadvertently had more than one account, used a phrase in a foreign language, failed to disclose certain personal information, yadada, yadada. This forum is important to me and I am therefore trying to tread very carefully. I appreciate your welcomes and your help and I will abide by all rules I am familiar with. I will post a picture of my car, use only the name "Dellavar" ALWAYS stay on topic, post a thank you for each responding post and speak only English. Thank you for your patience and your understanding, it is much appreciated. Currently this is the only forum or group that I belong to, and the first attempt at such membership in ten years.

Dellavar,
As I said, membership shouldn't be a chore to be dreaded. If you aren't sure about the "character," for lack of a better word, of the forums, just watch and observe what goes on in any section. Wander around other sections to see how they do. Each section has its personality because they all deal with different models of Jaguar, and have different problems and issues.

We are International in scope, having members from all over the World; Germany, UK, Russia, France, Dubai, UAE, India. Some obviously struggle with English but post anyway as best they can, and usually someone can work out what they need.

As Ken has said above, we try to be helpful and friendly, and since we are international, we take into consideration other nationalities, language, expressions, culture and experiences. But in any and all languages, courtesy and politeness goes a looong way to smooth over any differences.

You are Very welcome here, I hope you find solutions to your Jaguar problems, and I hope your experience with us is enjoyable.
