Talking Introduction, Request Access to Buyer's Guide

Greetings, forum members. My name is Norberto and I am a new member out of Colorado Springs. I joined because I am considering the purchase of a 1988 Jaguar XJ 6 for $1,750 and would like some guidance before doing so. I just found you, unfortunately, and I committed to buying the car today. It would be great if I could access the buyer's guide prior to. Thanks in advance.

I think you will be buying an XJ40 ,check out XJ 40 forums for tips . My best advice is beware suspension failures, some building up rust issues , A/C .
For A/C it set me back more than the price of your ride along with tranny maintenance . Go figure

Welcome to the forum, probably too late for you with your purchase, but we have had quite a few requests from New Members wanting this guide, I will add an off site link to my MediaFire account in the XJ6/12 FAQ for people wanting to obtain it but are too new to download directly from the forum.

OK done. Buyer's Guide.

I'll probably get a smack on the wrist from our Admin. (either that or a bottle of Glayva)

Default Put me in coach

Please give me access too, I am going to change out the "A" drum in my trans and would like to see the posted pics. I'm in Ft. Myers, Fl. and it's still feels like August here. I think this is about my 6th post but I've been a member since June.

welcome to the site brokernv, good to have you here and I hope you enjoy the forum, some really great members / techs here and plenty of info.
Upgraded to FFA although it may be too late, hope it helps some

AlexXK8 - Upgraded to FFA also

Translator - thanks for the off site link, much appreciated by all I'm sure. Its unfortunate die to spammers that the way we currently deal with this issue affects new members and we must do all we can to try and work around this as you have done. This is why I always try to check out new members subs and upgrade them to FFA if they look ok!
Glayva on its way

Cool Thanks! It's nice to be here. Please help!

Thanks JimC64, Translator...are you out from behind that couch yet? I couldn't download the buyer's guide, btw.

Yeah, we bought it for $1,750 later that day...a beautiful, glossy black 88 XJ6 with beige leather interior - yes it is an XJ40, cadillac. My wife and I took it for a test spin up Ute Pass and it did great. Burned a little oil at first but it must have just been on the block because it burned off. Purred like a...well, kat. Drove it home, parked it overnight, started it right up the next day to go register it. Nice. Stopped into PO Box to check mail, wouldn't start! All the electronics seemed fine but the starter wouldn't even try to engage. I noticed a ding-ding-ding-d-d-d everytime I pulled the key out of the ignition but nothing more.

Let it sit for a few hours after which it started right up. Drove it home, parked it overnight, started it right up the next day, took it to a mechanic - noticed the d-d-d-d-d when I pulled the key out of the ignition and said, rut roh. Mechanic later said it would not start.

Any ideas?

Ding, d d d d d... sounds lile you might have a problem with your Park G/Box switch causing the car to not start.

Try firmly engaging Park and then try starting.
Or try starting in neutral.

For more in depth T/shooting, fire up a post over in the XJ40 section, great guys there.

BTW, out from behind the couch, got to be, to check the mail box
