Introductions
Hello all,
My name is Campbell Robinson, and I am new to the forum. I am from Fort Worth, Texas. I purchased a 5.3 litre 1989 Jaguar XJ-S a little over a year ago to use as a daily driver. Prior to purchase I was rather a novice mechanically speaking. While I have a wonderful shop in Austin, Texas that helps me out quite a bit, I have learned quite a bit about this car and cars in general over that past year. That being said I know I still have a tremendous amount to learn. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know the quirks of this great marque and more specifically this model. I have put well over 10,000 miles on this car over the last year and intend to drive it many more miles in the years to come.
I look forward to learning from everyone’s expertise here,
Campbell Robinson

Welcome to the forums Campbell,
A splendid looking example and great to hear it's your DD. That puts you in a very select group.
I can see you've already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Southwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-southwest-37/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham

Hello, Campbell,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar XJ-S! (anything less than a year is new ownership)
And ya know, it would look pretty good if only it was RED!! (RED is my second favorite right after BLACK)
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Hello Ben,
I use Torqqe Performace, out on 290 towards Dripping Springs. They do very good work. They will pretty much work on any car imaginable.

Yes I called several shops and they didn't even want to talk to me. But I called torqq and they were very nice and very helpful. However diagnostics is $244 and I'm nervous about getting that done because I'm curious what the gearbox fault code will end up translating to with a 2006 S-Type 3.0. I think the other one was called something like luxury import Auto and they said they would also willing to look at anything before 2011 which all the other shops in town will not look at it if it's before 2011. Good to know there's someone else in town.
Did you have to do any repairs on your new car? Also I wanted to ask if you don't mind how much you paid for it? I love these cars. They are so responsive and nimble and handle beautifully high speeds.

Torqqe is definitely on the more expensive side, but I think they do very good work. I purchased the car for around $10,000, but have spent almost double that on refurbishing the car itself since I drive it daily. Torqqe rebuilt the entire suspension and put in new rotors/ pads (which is a difficult job on this car because the rear brakes are inboard). They have also done all of the typical upkeep on my car for the past year, new plugs/ rotor, and they replaced almost the entire fuel injection system (new pump and new fuel lines) They also rebuilt the transmission this past year and the rear differential setup. The key to these cars seems to be finding one that lacks any rust in order to make it worth your while. I found mine almost completely rust free and with solid paintwork and interior so I have only had to deal with mechanical refurbishment. Torqqe also guarantees all of their work for two years at least.

This discusion would be best in US Southwest Region forum where other members in the same area are more likely to see it.

Campbell it turns out I have a buddy not too far from that shop that also works on jaguars and has a lot of really cool older cars as well and I know that they would absolutely love yours. You probably have seen Mercury Charlie's heading out that direction. Charlie is a good old mechanic and he's got a really good team of young cats working with them one of them is my personal friend robert. I'm actually going into the shop today so I can show them my new jag. But I feel like it's nothing compared to yours. And although you've already put the work into it I think that you would really love some of the things that they have showing up at that shop. It'd be cool if we ran into each other and passing one of these days. If you know of any roundups happening in the Austin area that you ever participated in let me know cuz I would love to see your car in person. I might actually take a job at Mercury Charlie's. I took semesters of paint and body and I'm kind of a car fanatic as I'm sure you are. All right well wish me luck good talk see you out there
I will definitely have to check out Mercury Charlie’s next time I’m out on 290, I just looked them up, and their work is fantastic. I don’t know of any meet-ups anytime soon, but I still hope to run into you out there at some point. Take care, and good luck with everything!
