Default Jag Newbie

Just signed up and am getting ready to go buy a new battery for the car after reading about how many things get mucked up by an older battery. This is my first Jag, a 1997 XK8, British Racing Green convertible with only 33,000 miles on it. It is in terrific shape albeit with a few gremlins that I am hoping the new battery takes care of. Windows don't go up and down correctly, none of the trip odometer buttons work, music sounds horrible, things of that nature. This car has been for sale in a classic car showroom for a while now and my wife has wanted it since day one of setting eyes on it so it is really her car, just up to me to keep it running. I have been working on cars most of my life so I am not very intimidated by it. As long as it is not a transmission problem. I learned my limits long ago, I do not get along with transmissions at all.

We currently have all the cars listed in my signature and each one is a project in itself. Really hoping this car will be mostly just a driver and not a project.

They are definitely beautiful cars. I used to have an 03 XK8. People would roll down their windows at stop lights to tell me that they loved my car. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forums Matt,

Losing the window auto drop settings is a classic first sign of a failing battery so you are on the right track.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. Take a look there for advice on transmission fluid and filter changes to extend the life of this so called "sealed for life" unit.

You can also use the US Southwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-southwest-37/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
