Default Jaguar virgin

Hi all, I'm Greg and I've just purchased (without a test drive due to working away and just needing something waiting for me when I got home). It is a wreck. Faults found so far;
  • Limp home mode with coils on dash.
  • Touch screen not operational in any sense - fuses blow the second it is plugged in.
  • Drivers door does not open from outside. This is the biggest one as I feel I've got a rod missing??
  • Insane condensation inside the car with mould even growing.
  • All 4 tyres have quick slow punctures
  • Brakes all look to be needing changed.
  • The engine never seems to get above 56 degrees - tested with an obd tool.
  • Wiper sprayers are non operational.
  • Tailgate doesn't open. Also, should the glass open too??
Please be kind! I'm usually on land rover forums and I'm finding the Jag to be an enigma!

Welcome to the Forums.

That will be a baptism of fire, but the end result, PRICELESS.

",,,,, waiting for me at home", yep, Jaguars are the most patient beast on the planet, well done.

Baptism of fire is about right! I know I shouldn't have bought sight unseen but desperate times and all that jazz.

I've been working on the car this morning /lunch and I've fixed the coils by cleaning the turbo vanes. I popped off the circlip to the electronic actuator and observed that the actuator was functioning correctly and so just gave the turbo a real clean which solved that issue.

The door handle though. Eek!

Welcome to the forums Greg,

Good to have you with us.

It sounds like the driver's door problem is annoying you the most. This diagram from JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue) is the best illustration of the setup. Probably only a link rod detached but it could be a failed microswitch in the door latch:

I can see you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thank you very much for the warm welcome guys and gals. I won't saturate this thread with too much problem solving but thank you for the information already provided, it is greatly appreciated. I don't have any link rods, even to the inside handle which is a cable, so I don't know what's going on there as my insides look nothing like the insides from the manual there. I am the first one in the door (foam still in factory condition) and so I don't know if I've got a totally different door. I'll trawl all of the posts for all ages, to see if someone has replaced the door with too new a model at some stage.

See you in the real forums and when I find solutions, I'll post a thread outlining how.
