I've been advised by a garage that my banana arm has split?
I've been quoated around 570 + labour - is this reasonable?

An interesting diagnosis. I'd bet the cost of the component + labour they can't find that description anywhere in the Parts Catalogue. Both the Lower Front Wishbone Arm and the Vertical Link on the front suspension are curved. The Wishbone Arm on the rear is also curved. With an accurate component description it's easy to find the cost from JLR and, as they are manufactured by Lemforder, the cost from aftermarket suppliers which will be significantly lower.

Thanks for the reply! He described it as the rubber baring being split (stated it was a known fault with my model) he then pulled out a part (what to me looked like) what you said, and said you have to change the pair as it messes with wheel alignments ect...

Apologies for my lack of terminology - im trying! Haha

You're doing a lot better than the garage.

You could have AWD (All Wheel Drive) or RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) but it sounds like he was talking about the front suspension. This is a generic Jaguar front suspension layout:





The Vertical Link is item 15 and the Lower Control Arm is item 17. Either of these look familiar from what you were shown?

Yes item 17 looks like the one! And yes i am rear wheel drive, i have attached the report from my last service its a 17 plate too

Here's the relevant section from JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue):





A replacement bush (item 11) is available but a Jaguar Dealer would normally fit a new wishbone arm (item 10). The additional labour to remove the old bush and press in a new one making any cost saving minimal. Not strictly essential to replace both sides but a sensible precaution where one side has failed. The list price is £237.78 each.

JLR show the bush as out of stock although available from aftermarket suppliers.

Banana Link indeed! True it looks like a banana, and shop staff doubtless know exactly what that means, but to throw such terms at a customer who may or may not have a clue, I would think is a bit Unprofessional to say the least. But that might just be me.

It looks like GGG has you sorted at any rate, he's very good at that.
