Exclamation Jaguar XK8 issues with drivability

Hi everybody - my name is Sat and I’m new to this forum. Having worked in the Jaguar Browns Lane plant in the UK, I have been in love with the jaguar xk8. I purchased a sky silver blue jag xk8 late last year - 1997. I recently spent a small fortune restoring the car and the bodywork.
It started with a flat battery - battery replaced, Since new battery when we start the car a significant amount of faults appear on instrument panel including- battery not charging, gearbox error, stability control error. Car starts fine and all gauges work but when Gearbox stays in park mode all lights in instrument panel go off. We have tried the following:

1. Replace the panel fuses - no change
2. Replace battery - no change
3. Removed instrument pack and sent it for testing and repair with ECU testing in Derby. Result was no fault found

Not sure where to go from here. A bit lost - any help or support anybody could provide is much appreciated!!!

further discussion points:

Thank you for the great welcome Don and David. I will definitely go into the new member area and update.

my friend is planning to complete the diagnostic activity and dtc codes on Saturday.

However, the car starts fine and all gauges work. If I start the car and immediately shift the car to drive it works. However, if I start the car and leave for 20 to 30 seconds I am unable to shift the lever from P to D. Also, if I drive the car all the dashboard lights are off and the vehicle power is significantly down. Once I brake, the dash lights appear and I seem to have full power for a couple of seconds.... apologies if this confusing

Thanks Sat

Welcome to the forums Sat,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

First things first. What is the battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position when checked with a voltmeter?

If it's less than 12.6 volts, disconnect the leads and charge the battery at 2 to 5 amps for six hours then retest. If the voltage is still less than 12.6 volts, the battery is suspect and should be replaced. Many of the electrical faults chased on these forums are the result of a failing or weak battery.
