Default Jaguar Xtype 2006 2L D

Hi, i bought my Jaguar last last September 2019. After about 6 weeks i had a problem wher the engine suddenly cut out, no power steering etc. I took it back to the garage who changed the fuel pump. Everything was fine until the szme thing happened in March. I have had the fuel line and the fuel pump changed (both second hand) and it is still has the same problem. Is it the ECU.? Help please. Dave

Welcome to the forums Dave,

An unusual question from Grant. He must have read your question but skipped the title!

You need to get a code reader/scantool on it. Mysterious cut outs, apart from being potentially dangerous, are very likely to leave some error codes which would help troubleshoot the issue. ECM faults are not unknown but fortunately rare.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/ to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

I've added vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. If you want to change these, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hi Graham, thank you for your reply. Here is the message from my mechanic. After removing and refitting the ecu, it fired up briefly to cut out again. Code is throttle pedal track c stiu. Its not the rail, the pump, or the pedal. So logic, only logic tells me its the ecu.
Does anyone know which number on the ecu i need to match to replace. Thanks in advance. Dave

Dave,

Is your mechanic using the Jaguar DTC lookup table or running diagnostics with Jaguar SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics)? Jaguars can give strange results on generic scantools and online error code lookups are often very misleading.

Removing/refitting the ECM is effectively a "hard reset" which puts fuel trims etc back to default settings. After starting, the ECM will immediately start adapting to inputs from other sensors and that explains the cutting out again.

I suggest you take the question to X-Type forum (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/) for advice from members with the same model. As you can see from this JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue) extract, there are a lot of ECM changes on the X-Type with VIN range. They may be backwards compatible but it's unlikely to be a simple "plug&play" substitution.
