Just Joined, 2012 XF
He everyone...Just thought I'd introduce myself. I recently bought a used Jag, 2012 XF with only 58,000 kilometres on it. Recently the check engine light came on and took it in to my mechanic...he pulled off 53 error codes!!!
So, I took it to a Jaguar dealership and they think most of the error codes were caused by a faulty alternator...it was giving out inconsistent readings from 8-12 volts up and down like a sine curve.
New alternator was $900...almost lost it! How ridiculous is that! Well, I won't go back there again for service that's for sure.
So, what is the general advice on having your Jag maintained...private mechanic or dealer?

Welcome to the forum Doug,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
For maintenance, the options in decreasing order of cost are:
1. Dealer
2. Independent
3. DIY
If you don't want to do your own maintenance and repairs then you'll save a lot of money by finding a good independent specialist.
