Just joined
Just purchased a 2012 XKR prior one-owner convertible with multiple declined recommended service items by the last owner. Have all the prior service records from Palm Beach Aston Martin / Jaguar dealership (the original selling dealer) and other than the last visit when several high ticket items were declined, the prior owner didn’t seem to mind paying for repairs so I’m guessing the couple knew they were trading it in and didn’t want another giant repair bill.
The car is being delivered to me (car coming from east coast of Florida to west coast of Florida) this week and I am trying to sort out what maintenance items are really needed, whether I can use aftermarket parts (brakes, gaskets, suspension parts) and where to have the work done in the Naples to Fort Myers Florida area.
Would welcome input on cam cover oil leak, forward lower control arms (told by Jaguar Palm Beach the bushings are cracked and cannot replace bushings - must buy entire new control arm assembly), vacuum pump oil leak and finally, new front brakes. According to Fort Myers Jaguar, at their almost $300 per hour labor rate plus Jaguar OEM parts repairs would be about $12,500. Especially interested in good repair shops for items I can’t tackle myself.
I did a lot of work last year on my 1973 TR6 engine but an “old tractor engine” is a bit simpler than the beast of an engine in the Jaguar.

Welcome to the forums Steve,
Good to have you with us.
I've often found 'recommended service items' are more a reflection of what the dealership believes the customer can or will pay rather than being essential. Condemning most of the braking system is a favourite revenue generator.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk-xkr-x150-33/ to the XK/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Steve,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar XKR!
Regarding the repairs you were quoted, almost everything on these cars is DIYable if you have the motivation.
But if you really want it done in a shop, you should get another quote; Second opinion as it were, from an Independent shop who has a good reputation. In a population center such as Fort Meyer there's bound to be someone who works on Jags and knows what they're doing. Ask around. These people very often don't advertise as they have quite enougt business without that expense.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
