Just sayin'
I joined the other day to take advantage of the experience of others who have owned or still own a Jag. I have found that even Jaguar headquarters in the US along with their dealers are not always on top of how to fix these lovable cats. My experience with all things British includes in the past a '62 Austin Healey 3000 with trips, '71 Triumph TR6, '58 XK150 FHC-SE, '99 Callaway Range Rover, '01 S Type, and at present an '05 X Type Estate Wagon.

It never ceased to amaze me how dealers of Any brand can keep up with all the changes foisted upon them, sometimes in the middle of a model run. That's probably why I keep my cars until I've driven the wheels off them. By the time they're little more that scrap, I've become Intimately familiar with nearly every detail of their construction.
However, I agree with you, the Most illogically constructed car I've ever owned is my Jaguar! How is it, these cars are, as you say, so completely lovable, ya 'bout gotta fix them yourself.
Someone will be along soon to direct you to our very active X-type section if you haven't already found your way. There you can find Experts who will help you get your Jaguar purring again.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Midfired,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Dealers lose interest in a model when it ceases to be in the current range.
I can see you've found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Welcome Misfired
With the amount of options and various series produced it's not likely that anyone would know of all variations. I've been on the prowl for information about limited series of the x-type and I keep finding snippets of information about some of them, but there doesn't seem to be a near-complete overview anywhere, and compiling a list of standard combinations of technical specifications could even be more difficult, if doable at all. That's the case for the x-type, which is just one of many on the list of Jaguars.
