Default Learning about 02 XKRs

Hello all,
I just purchased a 2002 XKR and am living my dream. I was looking to join a forum to hear about other owner experiences with this car and found this one. Looking forward to contributing, once I get my feet wet.

2002 XKR; 38,000mi

Congratulations on your new car !! And such a low mileage too. Is it convertible or fixed-head ?

Saw a few today at the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club rally at Newby Hall, Yorkshire, today. All in lovely condition.

Thank you, Fraser. It is a convertible. The exterior is black and the interior is tan. I will post a photo of it, soon.

I love the sound of the car, when it starts up and the feel of acceleration, when I push on the gas pedal. The ride is good, however, I can feel some vibration in the steering wheel, while driving. The dealer said that it was not because of bad wheel alignment and was normal for XKRs; the way sports car suspensions respond to the road and transmit through to the steering wheel. Do you experience this?

I also have to track down why there is a beeping sound occurring while driving; 5-slow beeps, then a pause, then, 5-slow beeps, and then, a pause. This can go on for about a minute and then, stop. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum,

Sounds like a great car, have fun.

Head over and ask the XK guys about your beeping.

First inspect the wheels (especially the backside of the wheels) for dents and have them repaired if you find any. Then I suggest you have the tires balanced by a shop that has a Hunter road-force balance machine. It is about $100 and should give you a smoother ride.

Do the beeps occur when in Drive (not reverse) ?

Hope to see you in the XK8 /XKR section.

Hello Norri,
Thank you, for the welcome. I'm looking forward to reading what others might have to say about the beeping. The work week is taking up a lot of my time away from my car. I can't wait until the weekend to have some time to drive again.

Hello and thank you, for the information.
I have a lot to learn about the car and can't wait to get it running the way I believe that it should.
So, you feel that the vibration is coming from the wheels? I've located an auto shop that services Jaguars, nearby. However, I don't know, if they have a "Hunter road-force balance machine. If not, I'll fine a shop that does. Thanks, for the suggestion.
I've only heard the beeping, while driving forward; I haven't done much driving in reverse. The beeping comes and goes. I did once hear some beeping, when in reverse and thought that it had something to do with sensors responding to the car getting close to an object.
See you in the XK8/XKR section.

It looks to me like the 5 beeps are an indication that the airbag warning light bulb (the little light in the lower left corner of the passenger side wood panel on the dash) is blown out.

Default XKR G2G in Alexandria, VA

Wow, what an event!! I can't thank enough, all of the Jaguar enthusiasts that turned out to the "Get-together" at Foster's Grille, yesterday. Just driving into the parking area and seeing the line-up of Jaguars was impressive. It was great meeting all of you, having the opportunity to talk about Jags, and being able to ask questions. Oh, and the food wasn't bad either.

I hope that we get a chance to get together again, before it starts getting cold. Thanks.

Thanks, Gus, for the welcome and information. I hope that I can meet you, too, at the next, area G2G. We had a great time, yesterday, and I learned a lot from those that attended.

It was nice meeting you, yesterday. Thanks, so much for sharing information and taking the time to hear the beeping. I'll check out the warning light and let you know, what I find out. I'll also check out the website for tonneaux covers. Thanks, again.
