Smile Long time lurker - short time member.

Hello from the SF Bay Area.

I've been visiting the forum intermittently ever since I bought my 99XK8 back in 2000. And despite my doing the work on my 68 TR250 which I acquired in Coventry in 1968 and driving it as my main car until my son commandeered it when he went of to college in 1994 I've not been inclined to attempt to work on my Jag - what with its electronics and other newfangled gadgets. And not to mention the aversion to swimming in oil I developed while working on the TR.

But now I have an issue with the Jag that I'd like to get some help with. So, membership seems appropriate.

I'm looking forward to more regular participation.

Quite a jump from a 68 to a 99! Someone will be along shortly to direct you to the proper section where you can find help to sort out your sick kitty.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks, Elinor.

Yes, that was a long gap. But you know, I could always get that TR going if it broke down. Of course, sometimes it was just a matter of putting in some gas in the tank. )

Welcome to the forum JAGWHYER,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

It sounds like you've already found the model forum but if not, follow this link XK8 / XKR ( X100 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link US Western - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome I'm receiving.

I can see it's going to take awhile to get used to how the forum works. In the meantime, can you tell me if there's a sticky, or whatever, where I can checkout the meaning of the terms that the old timers use?

I figured out Di, and I think an SC engine is one that is super charged though I don't understand why it would be used in a reply to my question re my XK8. Perhaps the fellow didn't understand the difference between the XK8 and the XKR. Or maybe my XK8 has an SC engine that isn't the same thing as a supercharged engine. And I haven't a clue re my ECU.

I expect I'll occasionally be tripping over UK terminology vs US terminology. Thankfully, I'm already past petrol, boot, and bonnet. As well as the vehicle slowerdowner and vehicle speederupper pedals.

Anyway, it would be helpful if I could be directed to some form of glossary.

Thanks, in advance.

Jay

Jay,

SC = supercharged and NA = normally aspirated. ECU = Engine Control Unit.

Have a look at this thread by JagV8 for a list of acronyms:
