Looking for my first jaguar
I just joined as I am looking for my first Jag. My 15 year old turns 16 in 2 months, and I plan to let her have my Suburban to drive for the first 6 months. I will need to get something for myself, and I am thinking seriously about an XJR. Love the classic lines and the performance. I have been a BMW guy for a long time, and just got my wife a 750Li. I have been through a Porsche 911C4, BMW 540, Range Rover, Mini, Audi A8, newer Cadillacs, etc.
I am looking right now at spending $10,000 or less, and have been thinking a 99-2001 XJR might be perfect for me.
Any guidance is appreciated!

I absolutely love my '06 XJ8-L and didn't pay much more than what you're looking to spend. The ride is phenomenal, and so far, other than a couple "gremlins", the car is performing as I'd like. It has the "zip" I need, and the comfort I desire. Body style is a personal choice and preferance, but I love the lines on my car. Sorry if I'm getting "mushy", but I deserve to ride in something like this!!
Best wishes!!

For a proven track record, several members here have X308's which are already in the mileage range you're proposing to cover. It's probably too early for a similar verdict on the later X350 but there's no indications they'll be any less long lasting.
It really comes down to which you prefer. Any Jaguar can be made to last given the right repairs and maintenance (and $$'s!).
However, as it's your first Jaguar, the earlier steel bodied X308 is probably the easier model to take on.

Hi Dave:
Welcome to the forum and greetings from Wisconsin and the Midwest Region. Looks like you've already got a number of good suggestions. You'll find a lot of that around here. You should be very happy with driving a Jaguar. It's different from owning and driving other things. In our neck of the woods, it's actually a fairly exclusive club!
Cheers,
Scott

Ok, so I have to cars I'm looking at:
The first is a 2000 black on black with 89,000 miles. Clean Carfax, tensioners done, fluids changed, in very nice condition. Negotiating price, but it would be somewhere between $7200-8000. It is out of state, so I'd either fly out and drive it back or ship it. It is the color combo I like most. However, no rear heated seats, but does have navigation.
The second is a 2004 British Racing Green with tan leather with 107,000 miles. Also very clean, and more bells and whistles. But...the rear air suspension leaks. When parked overnight the rear drops all the way down. When run for a time, it pumps back up. It's at a dealer, and they are REALLY motivated to sell...they came down to $8000 total out the door unrepaired. I believe I can get that down to $7000. Not sure how much of a $$ gamble that it.
Opinions please!
