Greetings from near Ensenada, BC, Mexico
I have owned my 1998 XK8 for about 8 years and, occasionally, have skulked on this site for answers to very basic questions. (I know nothing about fixing cars.) I moved with it to Baja California 2 years ago. The bumpy dirt roads here are very bad on my little car, and mechanics here do not know much about XK8s. This is forcing me to learn a bit more about my car. Thus, my new membership.
Welcome to the forum Msterieus,
Skulking - that's even more dangerous than a lurking!

Thank you, all. Ooops - you can see I am not on forums too often. I TRIED to remember what they call it when a person just looks and never posts, but "lurk" - the word I wanted - escaped me. Oh well, I kind of like "skulk". Skulking is like lurking while one is moving.
Pics of my ride? I do love my old British Racing Green XK8 convertible, but frankly, it looks just like all the others of the same color and model.

Welcome to the forum.
We are planning to live in Cabo part time. I've been contemplating bringing our XK-8 but from what you say that doesn't seem to be a good idea.
I'll probably just get a beat up Toyota pick up locally and leave the jag in the States

Hi, George. I have never been to Cabo and don't know how bad the roads are there. I happen to live in a particularly "rugged" area. It's about an hour south of Ensenada, near La Bufadora, and although there are dirt roads all around, I live one mile up a REALLY BAD, rocky, unmaintained one. In addition, there are several speed bumps in my little area that are high and inadequately marked, if marked at all, so inevitably, on occasion, I (and everyone else) neglect to slow down when going over them.
The bumps and vibrations have damaged many, many of my neighbors' cars - most of which are a lot higher and better suited to the road than my XK8. I have driven the XK8 an average of no more than once per month. (I usually drive my AWD Subaru Outback.) I have no doubt that my damaged ball joints are due to the bad road and speed bumps. I have had other electronic problems that might be attributable to all the vibration and might not be.
Most people I talk to say, about Baja California (North) - beaters are the best cars to drive here. If and when I decide to stay here permanently, I know I will have to get rid of my Jaguar.
Good luck!
