Default Metal fatigue in Jaguar XF Wheel

Hello,
I'm a lifelong Jaguar lover. I've owned a 1983 XJ6, and currently own a 1999 XK8 and a 2013 XF 2.0. I've been to Browns Lane and Castle Bromwich. In short, I love these cars. However, I've had the strangest thing happen. My wife and I were taking the XF to Florida. My wife was driving, when the tire pressure light came on for the right rear tire. We pulled off, filled the tire, and resumed our trip. About an hour later, the light came on again. We repeated the process. In about 30 minutes it happened again. We were at our destination and it was very late, so we turned in and looked at it in the morning. It was flat, so I pumped it up and went to a local repair shop to have the tire patched. In about 15 minutes the repairman said the tire was fine, but there was a thin crack in the wheel on the inside. We didn't hit anything, and there were no marks on the tire. He thought the metal had failed. The wheel was made in Germany. After several calls I was able to get a wheel ordered. I had to pay for it to get it. I'm under warranty. Has anyone had this experience?

Welcome.

My experience with "Mag" wheels is limited to porosity of the castings. This was with 2 XJ-S Starfish wheels, and 1 Pepperpot on a S3.

We had heaps of that porosity when I was Parts Manager with Hyundai, but they are NOT a Jag, even in our wildest dreams.

I suggest a simple repost in the XF section would reveal a pattern if there is one.

Once on a long trip I had a wheel fail, but the car was by no means as new as yours. At least no real damage was done, no one was hurt, and you're able to replace your wheel.
